Five months ago I flew into Bangkok's new International Airport which was pretty event free. But two weeks later I also flew out of that airport and couldn't believe what a disaster it was. How do you take an airline that had an entire terminal to itself at the old airport and then cram them into two measly counters? And then on top of that, not put up tensa-barriers to help organize the lines in front of the desks? Check in was a mad free for all and the staff did absolutely nothing to help organize. I think it took me two hours to get to the front of the line.
And then once past the security gates you will probably have to walk forever to actually get to your gate. The airport is the largest single terminal airport in the world. I don't know why they boast about this, its not a good thing. All it ensures is that you'll walk a serious distance toting your carry on baggage before you get to your gate.
As if that wasn't bad enough, there was nowhere to buy water and/or reading material. Both of these things, I consider essentials for any plane ride but the airport had overlooked these necessities. Instead they jam packed every possible luxury brand store you can imagine. Gucci, Dior, Ferragamo, Chanel, etc. But not a drop of water to drink in sight.
So, I'm not surprised to hear that the lack of planning went far beyond the interior design, layout, and content of the airport. Apparently, the place is sinking.
